WorldYellow In detail

Zviedrgravja Waterfall falls, similar to the nearby Zartapi Waterfall, falls over the oldest rocks that are exposed in Latvia: the Middle Devonian siltstone, clay and sandstone of the Narva Formation. These rocks started to form some 385 million years ago.

Zviedrgravis and its waterfall flow in man-made riverbed. These works, though, were made long ago, possibly in the 19th century.

This small waterfall is remarkable thanks to the bright colors of the exposed rocks: rusty-burgundy, light grey-blue and dark brown. These colors are at their best in the periods, when the water is flowing.

Frequently this waterfall is dry. Fairly small stream forms after longer rain and in the spring, when the snow melts.

Waterfall is located in the nature reserve area of Slitere National Park.

Please, refrain from visits to this waterfall! Unfortunately, each visit takes away a bit of its natural charm due to trodding and stomping.
