In detail
The four waterfalls on Zarvalks and its side branch are located in the middle of a group of numerous small waterfalls in the central part of Kurzeme. There is a good chance that further research in this area will result in new, additional finds of small waterfalls… Thus, just some hundreds of meters from it is the similar, smaller Elcinu Valka Waterfall.
Zarvalks is a small brook that flows for some 2 kilometres. It has two waterfalls – one is on the upper rim of Abava valley (which is much wider than Abava River) and another – some 0.5 km further, close to the fall of Zarvalks in Abava River. There is also a smaller side brook of this stream to the west – there are two more waterfalls on it.
Here is described the lower waterfall on the main brook – the larger and more picturesque of the four. This waterfall is located close to a small countryside road close to Abava River. It is some 1.4 m high, although in the recent past it was a bit higher: now the upper part of it has receded. At full water the waterfall is up to 1.3 m wide, but for the most part of the year it has little water in it.
Waterfall has formed on the Devonian dolostone of Plavinas Formation.
