In detail
Latvians love their waterfalls and count even the smallest ones. Well… there is an unwritten agreement that if the waterfall is less than 0.2 m high then maybe that is not a thing, but otherwise, everything is found, measured, and admired.
The “discovery” of Virsaisi Waterfall in 1998 (it was known to locals before) was a welcome addition to the list. With its height of 1.7 m and width of 3-4 m, it entered the list of “real waterfalls” because it flows for the most part of the year and looks like a proper waterfall.
Virsaisi Waterfall has formed on Devonian dolostone of Daugava Formation. Below the main falls is a smaller, 0.3 m high dolostone ledge.
This waterfall is located on private property. A picturesque nature trail leads through the forest towards the falls but, please, be kind and warn owners beforehand (their phone number is on the signage at the beginning of the trail) and bring 2 EUR in cash with you for the maintenance of the nature trail (the situation in 2023).
