Lake balls of Mývatn
In short
OOne of the few places in the world (others are in Japan and Ukraine) where form whole colonies of marimo – more than 10 cm large balls formed by green algae Aegagropila linnaei. These balls are soft, pleasant, up to 12 cm in diameter. These algae almost died out and now are slowly recovering.
