Hveravellir Geothermal Field
Beautiful geothermal field and popular tourist destination. Area contains several notable hot springs and geysers, such as Gjósandi, Bræðrahver, Grænihver, Rauðihver, Öskurhóll, Fagrihver and others. Here are at least six geysers.
Gjósandi
Small geyser that erupts up to 0.5 m high.
Gljúfrafoss (Gljúfrabúi)
This 40 m tall waterfall is located in a narrow charm and partly obscured by cliffs. It is located to the north from the much more famous Seljalandsfoss.
Kvernufoss
Beautiful, 30 m tall waterfall that in many ways is similar to the nearby Skógafoss. Waterfall has formed a secluded gorge and falls with a single drop. There is a grotto behind it.
Skaðafoss
Several metres tall waterfall with a single plunge on Stórilækur (Bærjargil) River some 1.7 km north from Svartifoss.
Efri-Austurheiðarfoss
Nice, small waterfall, several meters high.
Neðriheiðarfoss
Small waterfall on Austurgil stream.
Heygötufoss (Austurgil)
The trail towards Svartifoss crosses a tributary of Stórilækur (Bærjargil) – Austurgil. Some 60 m below the bridge the stream forms a small waterfall.
Þjófafoss on Bærjargil
15 meters tall waterfall with a single plunge, sliding down along a steep rock. The last large waterfall on Stórilækur River, some 1.2 km below Svartifoss.
Hundafoss on Bærjargil
24 meters tall waterfall with a single plunge. The tallest waterfall on Stórilækur stream and the third in cascade of falls that starts with the famous Svartifoss.
