Smith Rock
Spectacular, vertical cliffs at Crooked River. A popular site for climbing, the cliffs are up to 180 m high.
Fort Rock
Unusual landmark – tufa ring that rises 105 m above the surrounding plain. The diameter of this formation is around 1,360 m.
Starved Rock
Starved Rock is a prominent, some 30 m tall cliff at Illinois River. In the small side valleys have formed 18 beautiful canyons in sandstone rocks.
Garden of the Gods in the Shawnee National Forest
Uplifted sandstone plateau with diverse interesting rock formations – hoodoos, rock pillars, narrow canyons.
Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes
Unusual seaside cliffs that are formed from numerous thin layers of Oligocene limestone. As a result, there have formed diverse cliff formations that at some places resemble heaps of pancakes. In the jagged cliffs have formed smaller natural arches and several roaring blowholes. These blowholes are especially impressive at high tide and strong south-western winds.
Pelekunu – Wailau Cliffs
Some of the highest sea cliffs, up to 1,010 m high. Drop is not vertical. Contain some waterfalls that thus belong to the highest ones in the world, including approximately 900 m high Olo’upena Falls and 840 m high Pu’uka’oku Falls.
El Capitan
Granite monolith with 900 m tall, vertical wall. One of the most challenging climbing routes in the world.
Half Dome
Granite dome rising 1,444 m tall above the surroundings. One side of the dome looks as if sheared down, thus the mountain resembles a dome that is divided in half.
Mount Dickey east face
1,600 m tall granite wall that rises over a horizontal distance of 800 m.
Mangi Tungi
Very impressive cliffs with two peaks, with numerous historical and art values. Contain forts and numerous Jain temples.
